LETS JAMB RESULT BE VALID FOR 2 YEARS - CONFAB

The National Conference (Confab) Committee on Social Sector chaired by former Minister of Women Affairs, Josephine Anenih, with the immediate past Minister of Education, Ruqayyatu Rufa’i as her deputy has recommended that the results obtained by candidates who sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) should be valid for two years so as to enable candidates get another chance at admission. The committee lamented the circumstance where over 1.5 million candidates jostle for just 500, 000 available admission space yearly, leaving the bulk of one million who are unable to secure admission because of low carrying capacity of the institutions in the country. This issue has been on for years thereby increasing the number of candidates writing the JAMB UTME every year by over 100 percent. The committee recommendation will be debated at the floor of the confab this week and a decision is expected to be made.
