1st batch of the provisional ADMISSION list for UNDERGRADUATE is out

1,014 GET FUTA PROVISIONAL ADMISSION FOR2014/2015 ACADEMIC YEAR Out of the 5,865 candidates who took the Post- UTME examination conducted by the Federal University of Technology, Akure FUTA, 1,014 have been offered provisional admission as the University kick starts the process for the 2014/2015 academic year. Ige, Ibukun Jonathan with 92 percent recorded the highest score in the examination. He was trailed by Dada, Toluwalope Temidayo with 88%, Adediran Adejoke Oluwaseyi, Udomi Martins Chijindu, Oyemade Oluwaloba Oyedotun, Soetan Elizabeth Damilola and Ayodele Omolayo Anne who all scored 84%. Expressing his delight at the conduct and outcome of the examination, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebiyi Daramola reaffirmed FUTA’s commitment to due process in all her operations. University Of Ibadan To Produce Ebola Vaccines

Professor Isaac Adewole, the Vice chancellor, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, has hinted that the institution has set up a Committee on Ebola Prevention and Preparedness, to try and produce Ebola vaccine. Nigerian Tribune reports that the Vice chancellor, while speaking at a town hall meeting in Ibadan, further revealed that the institution’s virology laboratory would be expanded and make sure it produce a vaccine that could be used to prevent Ebola. Professor Adewole said the university had concluded plans to spearhead Ebola vaccine production, and advised residents to dispel their fears as they would be adequately equipped with necessary information about the virus. He urged the federal government to investigate the allegation that the late Patrick Sawyer was paid to import the virus to Nigeria, and cautioned people against handshake. We Are Not Planning To Go On Strike -ASUU

What may be coming to many as a breathe of solace is finally here as we can confirm to you without any shadow of doubt that the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) will not be going on strike any time soon. In an exclusive chat with one of the top members of the Union who pleaded anonymity earlier today disclaimed the rumour of his members planning to embark on any strike. He argued that they cannot go on strike for now and if the need be for it, the Federal Government will be issued a notice which will be made public. In his words, ”ASUU cannot go on strike for now, we are also reasonable individuals and we will not do anything to jeopardize the education system. Kola Nut Can Cure Ebola- Prof. Iwu

Professor Maurice Iwu, said a plant commonly eaten in West Africa, popularly known as kola nut can cure the deadly Ebola virus as shown in its tracks during a laboratory tests. The Professor, who made the revelation while speaking at the 16th International Botanical Congress in St Louis in the United States of America, also disclosed that a compound taken from kola nut plant have also proved effective against some strains of flu. He stated that if the anti-Ebola compound proves successful in animal and human trials, it will be the first medicine to successfully treat the virus that causes Ebola haemorrhagic fever which is usually a fatal condition.
