We Are Not Planning To Go On Strike -ASUU

What may be coming to many as a breathe of solace is finally here as we can confirm to you without any shadow of doubt that the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) will not be going on strike any time soon. In an exclusive chat with one of the top members of the Union who pleaded anonymity earlier today disclaimed the rumour of his members planning to embark on any strike. He argued that they cannot go on strike for now and if the need be for it, the Federal Government will be issued a notice which will be made public. In his words, ”ASUU cannot go on strike for now, we are also reasonable individuals and we will not do anything to jeopardize the education system. If peradventure we want to go on strike, we will notify the FG early enough and engage them through pre-strike measures first”. Tuition to be introduced in federal universities

Abuja – The Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities on Friday called for the introduction of tuition in Federal universities to support funding of the universities. This is contained in a communiqué signed by Prof. Kimse Okoko, Chairman of the committee, in Abuja. The communiqué decried the resistance to introduce tuition in some universities by the Academic Staff Union of Universities and Students’ Union Government. According to the communiqué, the resistance is based on the argument that the introduction of tuition may take university education beyond the reach of the poor. It stated that avenues for finance for indigent students includes the revival of the student loans schemes, bursaries and scholarship, education bank, among other initiatives, should be put in place. The communiqué also stated that students who could afford to pay should be allowed to do so. The union warned that urgent steps must be taken by the federal government for the review of the agreement without further delay before it leads to industrial actions and destroy the on-going smooth academic calendar. LETS JAMB RESULT BE VALID FOR 2 YEARS - CONFAB

The National Conference (Confab) Committee on Social Sector chaired by former Minister of Women Affairs, Josephine Anenih, with the immediate past Minister of Education, Ruqayyatu Rufa’i as her deputy has recommended that the results obtained by candidates who sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) should be valid for two years so as to enable candidates get another chance at admission. The committee lamented the circumstance where over 1.5 million candidates jostle for just 500, 000 available admission space yearly, leaving the bulk of one million who are unable to secure admission because of low carrying capacity of the institutions in the country. This issue has been on for years thereby increasing the number of candidates writing the JAMB UTME every year by over 100 percent. The committee recommendation will be debated at the floor of the confab this week and a decision is expected to be made.

The hon. Dean of students, dr. B.k alese has stated on the futa fm radio, on a program organised by the student affairs, when ask about the school identity card, that the student identity card will be out very soon before the exam starts and he also added that the reason for the delay is because the ID card has some new features on it which has to be properly done to avoid mistakes and complains. Moreover he said student will no longer mark attendance with their mouth any more rather with the identity card He advice student no to cheat during the exam rather study harder and he also wish them success in their exams, so student Should watch out

Department of Transport Management Technology Gets Professional Accreditation.

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport has presented Certificate of Accreditation to the Department of Transport Management Technology, School of Management Technology, FUTA. While receiving the Certificate, the Vice-Chancellor , Professor Adebiyi Daramola , said all courses run in FUTA have been fully accredited by the National Universities Commission and relevant professional bodies. While thanking the body for the donation of reading materials to enhance the training of students, the Vice-Chancellor assured that the materials would be fully utilized. Wike Is More Concerned About River's State Crisis Than Ending The Strike - ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called for the sack of Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike who ASUU claims is more worried about the Rivers state crisis than the lingering crisis in the universities. The Coordinator of ASUU, Ilorin Zone, Dr. Adeleke Ayan said that instead of Wike to be concerned about the nationwide strike he is bogged down with local river's politics which is not under his jurisdiction. At a press conference Wednesday in Ado Ekiti, Ayan, who is the Chairman of ASUU in Ekiti State University (EKSU), said it was lamentable that the minister had allegedly abandoned crucial national issues like ASUU strike and started indulging in local politics. He called for immediate release of the N100 billion the government promised to turn around the country’s Ivory Towers around, saying “a lot of restoration will take place if the money is released in our universities”. FUTA TO HOST PTDF TECHNOLOGY KNOWLEDGE SHARING PROGRAM ME

The Federal University of Technology, Akure is set to host a one day Technology Knowledge Sharing Program (TKSP), an initiative of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) with the theme “Geology and Mineral Deposits in the Nigerian Flank of the Chad Basin: Implication for Hydrocarbon Potential for Sustainable Development”. The programme, which would have experts in the field delivering papers on related key issues, is slated to hold on Thursday, 13th June, 2013 between 9.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. in the University’s CCE Hilltop Auditorium.
