Teacher Dupes Students Of N500,000 In Lagos

         A school teacher, Abayomi Abdul on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining N500,000 from 14 students under false pretences.     The 49-year-old teacher who resides at No. 16, Singer Road, Ota, Ogun is facing a three-count of breach of peace, obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.      The Prosecutor, Sgt. Mike Unah, told the court that the accused committed the offences in May 2014 at Mercy Secondary School, Funsho Owolabi Estate in Abule Egba.     According to him, Abdul obtained N500, 000 from 14 students on the pretext of registering them for Junior School Certificate Examination. “The teacher, who had no intention of registering the students as promised, converted the money to personal use.     “When the school authority did not get any feedback from the accused, he was confronted and told t...

NYSC To Partner Corporate Organisations On Youth Empowerment – DG

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)says it is ready to partner with corporate organisations to empower youths with entrepreneurship skills.The NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. We Are Not Planning To Go On Strike -ASUU

What may be coming to many as a breathe of solace is finally here as we can confirm to you without any shadow of doubt that the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) will not be going on strike any time soon. In an exclusive chat with one of the top members of the Union who pleaded anonymity earlier today disclaimed the rumour of his members planning to embark on any strike. He argued that they cannot go on strike for now and if the need be for it, the Federal Government will be issued a notice which will be made public. In his words, ”ASUU cannot go on strike for now, we are also reasonable individuals and we will not do anything to jeopardize the education system.                                         Nigeria has recorded a major feat in automotive technology innovation with a car called “Tuke-Tuke’`, produced by students of the University of Benin. The car has passed international technical evaluation in Rotterdam, Netherlands, a statement said. The statement was signed by the Media Manager of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), Mr Precious Okolobo on Thursday in Abuja. It said that the car was now qualified to race at the 2014 Eco Marathon in Netherlands with cars from 25 countries, mostly advanced countries. 1.8 million graduates flush in to the labour market yearly

The Minister for Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, on Tuesday in Abuja said no fewer than 1.8 million graduates in the country move into the labour market every year. Okonjo-Iweala, who is also the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, made this known during a meeting with delegates of the Arewa Youth Forum on issues of youth development in the northern part of the country. She said that the data was generated by National Bureau of Statistics and that it was to enable the Federal Government to ascertain the level of youth unemployment and come up with policies to address it. She said, “I am proud to say that after two months of methodological work, the statisticians have come up with the data that 1.8 million people in the country enter the job market yearly. “I am happy to tell you that last year we were able to create 1.6 million jobs.
