First female to emerge as speaker of the ondo state house of assembly

Jumoke Akindele has emerged the first female speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly. Akindele, representing Okitipupa Constituency II was elected by a majority vote at the state House in Akure on Tuesday after polling 13 votes, defeating two other contestants, who are both men. Oyebo Aladetan from Ilaje Constituency 2 polled 9 votes, wile Soji Akinkuolie had no vote. Akindele is a lawyer and served as the Chairman of House Committee on Education before the election. In her acceptance speech, Akindele thanked the Labour Party, the Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, and as well as the members of the House and the people of the state. The newly elected speaker however promised to be diligent, just and committed to the cause of peace, harmony and development of the state. The election of a new Akindele comes after the demise of the late Speaker, Samuel Adesina in February 2014.

OBJ condemned the action of boko haram over the abduction of chibok girls

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday condemned the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls in Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno. Obasanjo made the condemnation during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Jigawa Government to adopt a junior secondary school and a primary school in Kudai, Dutse. .He appealed to the abductors to release them without any condition because the girls were innocent and should not be made to suffer unreasonably. “Whatever the grievances, objectives and anger of this group of people who are behind this abduction, they should not have acted on these innocent girls who are aspiring to become great in life through education. “We condemn their action and also plead to them to release these girls without depending on certain conditions and terms because they have important contributions to the future of this country.
