Tuition to be introduced in federal universities

Abuja – The Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities on Friday called for the introduction of tuition in Federal universities to support funding of the universities. This is contained in a communiqué signed by Prof. Kimse Okoko, Chairman of the committee, in Abuja. The communiqué decried the resistance to introduce tuition in some universities by the Academic Staff Union of Universities and Students’ Union Government. According to the communiqué, the resistance is based on the argument that the introduction of tuition may take university education beyond the reach of the poor. It stated that avenues for finance for indigent students includes the revival of the student loans schemes, bursaries and scholarship, education bank, among other initiatives, should be put in place. The communiqué also stated that students who could afford to pay should be allowed to do so. Federal Scholarship Board Nigeria Award 2014 Application Now On

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the Nigerian Federal Scholarship Award application for the year 2014. The Nigerian Award processes and implements scholarship awards for Postgraduate (PG), Undergraduate, Higher National Diploma (HND) and National Certificate in Education (NCE) students. CONDITIONS OF AWARD: The federal scholarship board nigeria award is tenable in Nigeria and takes effect from the beginning of each academic session. It lapses if not utilized within this period. 6 Varsities Get N2 Billion NLNG Support

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has signed a N2 billion Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with six Nigerian universities, one representing each of the six geo-political zones in the country, to develop their engineering education capacity. The beneficiaries are the University of Ilorin, representing the North-Central; the University of Ibadan, representing the South-West; the University of Port Harcourt, representing the South-South; the University of Maiduguri, representing the North-East; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, representing the North-West and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, representing the South-East. Speaking at the MoA signing ceremony in Abuja on Friday, June 20, 2014, the Managing Director of NLNG, Mr. Babs Omotowa, said that the agreement, which was sequel to the plan unfolded by the company in March this year, was for the implementation of phase one of the company’s University Support Programme. JAMB announce the cut off mark for the 2014/2015 utme

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the cut-off marks for admission into Nigerian Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education for the 2014/2015 academic session through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Chairman of the policy committee on admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria and Supervising Minister of Education, Barr Nyesom Wike, said that the Jamb utme cut off mark forUniversities is 180 points and abovewhile that ofPolytechnics and Colleges of education is150 points and above. The Minister urged the institutions to abide by admission guidelines into the nation’s tertiary schools. Prospective Post UTME candidates are to note that this is the minimum cut-off marks for tertiary institutions in Nigeria and some schools reserves the right to review their own cut-off mark upwards depending on the number of candidates that qualified for post utme.
