Teacher Dupes Students Of N500,000 In Lagos

         A school teacher, Abayomi Abdul on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining N500,000 from 14 students under false pretences.     The 49-year-old teacher who resides at No. 16, Singer Road, Ota, Ogun is facing a three-count of breach of peace, obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.      The Prosecutor, Sgt. Mike Unah, told the court that the accused committed the offences in May 2014 at Mercy Secondary School, Funsho Owolabi Estate in Abule Egba.     According to him, Abdul obtained N500, 000 from 14 students on the pretext of registering them for Junior School Certificate Examination. “The teacher, who had no intention of registering the students as promised, converted the money to personal use.     “When the school authority did not get any feedback from the accused, he was confronted and told to refund the money. NUC Approves Ondo State University of Medical Science

The National Universities Commission (NUC)has issued a letter of approval to the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences as the 40th state university in Nigeria. Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Julius Okojie presented the letter of recognition to the Ondo state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko. The NUC Scribe said the commission will also write the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB)to include the new university on the list of universities candidates who seek tertiary entrance admissions can apply to. “I wish to congratulate the government of Ondo state for the establishment of Ondo State University of Medical Sciences. “With effect from the 22nd of April 2015 the Ondo State University of medical Sciences has been recognised by the National Universities commission as the 40th state university and 139th university in Nigeria”, the letter read.
